Aged care nurse says health cuts ‘unwelcome but necessary’

October 9, 2024

As a registered nurse working in aged care, I sincerely wish there were no cuts to health funding.

However, if the money isn’t available, the Government would be irresponsible to go further into debt, increasing the burden on taxpayers.

As Health New Zealand was overspending its budget by $130 million a month (as reported by the NZ Herald), I don’t know what else the Government can do except make spending cuts.

I do wish the cuts weren’t happening however I don’t see what other option the Government has, given the dire financial situation. Therefore I accept that as unwelcome as they are, cuts are absolutely necessary.
