April 22, 2026

NZNO kaiwhakahaere Kerri Nuku has spoken at the United Nations permanent forum on indigenous issues — calling on the Government to uphold Te Tiriti.

Speaking at the forum in New York, Nuku said the Government should align with the United Nations declaration on the rights of indigenous people, and “restore Māori leadership in health and social policy”.

“We request that this forum monitor and report on developments in Aotearoa including the impact of current policies on Māori health and rights.”

Nuku was also speaking at a forum workshop about the attack on indigenous health in Aotearoa.
